The job that I would most likely be interested in pursuing after obtaining a degree would be coaching at the colligate level, more specifically eventually becoming a head coach at the division one level. A job opening that I found through the NCAA website is the head coaching position at Tennessee Tech University. Being a football coach at the colligate level especially division one requires obtaining a lot more knowledge rather than just knowing Xs and Os. You must know how to write and speak properly so that you can not only address the media but also to be professional when you address fellow staff members and students. In this major you are required to take a number of courses that will prove to be very beneficial for a head coach specifically this class sports media relations which teaches you the basics of dealing with the media, another class would be coaching principles. There are many other courses that would be greatly beneficial such as anatomy classes, writing and English classes, I may also want to take a few health science classes, and even a psychology course. The anatomy class would be usual because you want to have an understanding of how the body works so you know better training techniques for your athletes. Writing intensive courses would be very useful because as a division one coach it is imperative that you have great writing and speaking skills. These skills are extremely vital that a minor in English or communications wouldn’t be a bad idea, if you don’t go the route of minoring in coaching. Psychology would be very useful because the game of football has a great deal of mental aspects and the more knowledge I have on how the mind works the more beneficial I can be to my future athletes.
