What technologies does NASA use to explore Mars? NASA has a wide range of technology they use several different things in space but there are key things they work on to travel to Mars they will need to travel a long distance and for a human to survive they will need to be prepared physically fit and well feed. Another very tough task is landing on Mars, they would have to go through a whole new atmosphere compared to earth it would rip apart a landing craft if not study properly and planned for. The Deep space atomic clock project led by NASA's jet propulsion lab, this atomic clock could dramatically change the way we do deep-space radio navigation, reducing operations costs and safely delivering more science data and more spacefaring scientists to their destination. The project could further improve autonomous, navigation functions such as orbital insertion around the planet Mars or even landing on its surface. NASA anticipates the project will launch a prototype …show more content…

Orbiters on future missions will examine the planet's surface even both now and in the past, on the surface and underground. Scientists are looking for signs of water since they believe it must be present to sustain life even one-celled organisms they think may have lived on Mars at one time. Orbiters will also play a key role as communications for the assets such as rovers, landers and flying vehicles on the surface or in the atmosphere of Mars. Orbiters may also play a vital role in bringing back samples from the surface of Mars. Airplanes are another way to explore, they have not been used as of yet but they are trying to make a way for them to fly around the mars surface. These airplanes would be able to gather better images of the surface and cover more territory than current orbiter or rover technologies
