What is essence and existence? Does the concept of existence preceding essence must be conceived? What further effect does this have on meaning, value, and freedom in their lives? People are trying to find their meaning in life, while existing. Life is not a journey for happiness. Our life is all about finding meaning. The greatest duty for all persons is to find meaning in his or her life.
Essence means the individual real nature of a thing especially as contrasting to its existence. Existence means reality as presented in experience. We can know that something exists if we experienced that. Essence is equivalent to the sum or totality of our existence, freedom of choice, and responsibility. Some existentialists seem to be completely unfamiliar with any basic concepts of psychology. Human psychology cannot exist if existentialism is used. Humans are simply what they are. Man is what he resolves by himself after already existing and not that who is simply perceiving himself to be.The distinctive part of existentialism is brought out by the concept of existence preceding essence.. According to Roquenetin, he thinks that the presence of overwhelming and horrible presence of existence is too much for individuals to handle. It means that individuals are just thinking about the presence of their existence and can sometimes lead to many questions. According to Frankl (1959), there are 3 possible sources for our meaning. First is in work which is doing something significant, second is in love which is caring to the person around us, and lastly is in courage during the times which we think that we cannot handle something.
