The culture in Northern America during the 1960’s and 1970’s was very controversial. There were several that were happy with it but several that were extremely unhappy with it. There were several causes for the protests that took place in the United States during the 1960’s and 1970’s. Allen Ginsberg was a prominent figure during the time of counterculture. Ginsberg lived from 1926-1997 and he was a very key individual in all these protests.
During the 1950s, movies and TV were both a force for conformity and rebellion, depending on the specific content and audience. On one hand, the dominant narrative of movies and TV during this era tended to reinforce mainstream values and promote social conformity. Many films and TV shows portrayed idealized versions of American life, featuring characters who conformed to traditional gender roles and family structures. These narratives often emphasized the importance of conformity and adherence to societal norms, portraying those who deviated from these expectations as outcasts or villains. On the other hand, some films and TV shows challenged these mainstream values and promoted rebellion against the status quo.
I can assume a common person in the 1960 would find information in a library. I think information literacy was despite the fact they did not have the technology like we have now days, it was something people would still have to learn to get accurate information. Newspapers, phone books, radio, library with tons of books and encyclopedias were also part of that era that started the necessity for inventors to create what we have today. Information literacy then and now I think it was the same practice just with the different tools.

Decade’s Impact On Our Society: 1950s The 1950s was a decade full of music and entertainment. Entertainers like Marilyn Monroe and types of music like jazz. Even kids are having fun playing with their newly made, Mr. Potato Head toys. So many new entertainers, musicians, and inventions are becoming such a huge hit.
Students of history have a tendency to depict the 1950s as 10 years of success, similarity, and accord, and the 1960s as 10 years of turbulence, dissent, and dissatisfaction. These generalizations are to a great extent genuine, however, as with everything in life, there are special cases to this point of view. Consequently, the antiquarians ' depiction of the 1950s and 1960s is exact for the lion 's share of Americans; however a few gatherings were obviously special cases. The 1950s were portrayed as a prosperous and traditionalist decade for some reasons. The principal and most boundless of these reasons was the advancement of suburbia.
The 1960s was the golden era of toys, as there were countless of toys to choose from and parents spent more on their children, compared to previous decades. Board games continued to be popular forms of entertainment in the 1960s. At this time, the board games were very family oriented; designed for all ages to join together in competitive fun. Teenagers in the 1920s Many wonder what teenage life used to look like in the 1920s. Unlike previous generations, young Americans’ average number of years in school were increasing and instead of getting married at sixteen or seventeen, parents were delaying longer before pressuring their children into marriage. In other words, it rapidly became clear that America was entering a new era of life with many new traits. Dating, fashion, and entertainment were influenced by teenagers in the 1920s.
A new generation brings in a new, different culture. And somehow, it goes from different to rebellious. The adult American society will often look at the youth subculture’s homology: their choice of clothes, music, dance, and their overall lifestyle, and they will just begin to form these “personality conflicts” (O’Connor 412). If adults, more specifically parents, begin to have better understanding of why their subculture is often so different, then they will be able to relate to and raise “better” teenagers. This does not mean that every elder and adult has to embrace youth culture, but there should be an attempt to have a better understanding of it.
To start the switch in styles of Rock and Roll, the Alabama White Citizens Council came out with a pamphlet titled A Manual for Southerners . This literature acknowledged that it is the music industry that has the biggest influence on how kids present themselves from the way they dress to their mannerisms. The white, southerners who wrote this pamphlet were afraid their children would start interacting in interracial manners and wanted to protest this vulgarism by boycotting “Negro records”.
