Jonas’s community has a lot of rules and a certain way of life. These decisions are made for everyone in Jonas’s community. They have almost no crimes or problems with anyone. Nobody can make any decisions for themselves in this utopia.

One of the major life decisions is picking their life partners. The research committee picks everyone's life partners in Jonas's community. The comity does very precise researching on the partners. They'll do it off your Pacific genes, and personal interests they have observed in the past.

They never had any problems during their first year of being together. Some other couples don't always get along like Jonas's parents. The researchers have to repeat the research if this happens, they try to the most accurate as possible. The citizens in Jonas's community don't ever get to pick their life partners.
This is related to stopping the stirrings. The stirrings of other people in the community are stopped by taking a single pill. This prevents the citizens from wanting to have a certain life partner. The pill restricts the brain from having any sexual thought about a certain person. This one example of how the elders control the citizen of Jonas's community.
Jonas likes Fiona. and he had a dream about wanting to take a bath with her. When Jonas started taking the pills he lost his feelings towards Fiona. Now, Jonas has given the elders control over his feelings or emotions. Jonas will most likely now be paired with a life partner that he might not even have emotions for.
When Jonas gives up his feelings for Fiona. This gives an example of giving up his freedom of his emotions to the elders. When all the other citizens have or will take this pill on daily bases give up their feeling also. The elders take control of the citizens with giving them this
