Ethical Dilemmas In The Story Under The Same Moon

The story Under the Same Moon is all too familiar concerning Hispanics, the separation of family and immigration laws, which forbids illegal immigrations from crossing the United States border. A young boy is left in Mexico with his grandmother while his mother illegally lives and works in the United States to get enough money to one day unite with her son. The story thickens as the boy’s grandmother dies and he is left with family a member that does not seek his best interest to take care him. Their only concern is to gain money from his mother, which is sent to take of her child. The young boy has to make a decision to stay or try to find his mother in the states. After leaving Mexico, the boy finds himself in a position where obstacles gathered in the way in his search for his mother. Meanwhile a phone call was made to the mother and she makes the decision to leave the United States and return to Mexico, when the boy finds the phone which his mother calls him from every Sunday, he also finds his mother. According to Dictionary.com. (2017), Ethical dilemmas, also known as a moral dilemmas, are situations in which there is a choice to be made between two options, neither of which resolves the situation in an ethical acceptable fashion.
The strategy would best serve the family and provide resolution would be to find a way to get legalized in the United States or to return home to Mexico. The mother did experience discrimination while working on a job, but there was little to be done because she was illegal.
