In my essay, I was able to use pathos, ethos, and logos effectively to interpret the ideas of power and how it affects one’s personal life. I used the technique of logos, by taking the information of Julius Caesar, Abraham Lincoln, and Adolf Hitler as evidence so I could have accurate conclusions. Also with the evidence and the leaders I mentioned in my essay, I stated Ethos, because it related to the idea that my ideas were credible based on my evidence. Ethos was also stated in the in-text citations and quotes, helping to make my essay credible that I got the information from a worthy source. I appealed to emotion with the technique of pathos, by creating sympathy for Brutus’s wife in The Tragedy of Julius Caesar.
In William Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar, Antony primarily uses logos during the reading of Caesar’s will, at the same time telling about Caesar’s refusal to accept the crown, and whilst showing Caesar’s helping Rome. In showing Caesar’s will, Antony persuades the people that Caesar is good by telling the people he left them money. Near the end of the speech as the people are gathered around Caesar’s corpse, Antony proclaims, “Here is the will, and under Caesar’s own seal. To every Roman citizen, he gives- every several man- seventy-five drachmas. ”(lines 230-233).
Brutus states repeatedly that Caesar’s death was an act of heroism, and it was necessary to save Rome from politically falling. However, the one that proves to be far more significant and powerful was the speech by Mark Antony. He uses logos, hyperboles, and rhetorical questions to
Aristotle had a method of persuading people that toyed with their emotions, this was one of the three Aristotelian Appeals called Pathos. Commercials are notorious for using pathos in order to make a viewer feel terrible about a situation, that in reality has no effect on that individual. In this response, the example used to explain Pathos will be an anti-smoking commercial. The commercial portrays a child walking into an airport with his mother and the more then disappears, for what we assume to go smoke, the child begins to cry for the fact he is no longer with his mother anymore. The first sign of pathos being used within this commercial would be when the mother disappears, leaving the boy completely alone in an airport while sad music
In the play, The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Brutus has just killed Caesar for being what he considers ambitious, and he has spoken to the people of Rome about why he did it. He uses ethos, pathos, and logos to try and persuade the citizens to not punish him for what he has done. He uses ethos by himself being a very honorable and noble person. He was one of Caesar’s closest friends, so he of all people would be the first to find a reason not to kill him. His nobility and honorability showed that he will always do what is best for his country, even if he didn’t want to.
In Act III, Scene 2 of The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, Marc Antony is able to change the mood of the crowd. The commoners transform from a confused, depressed group of people to an angry mob wanting to get back at the conspirators for their despicable action. Antony manages to do so by using ethos, pathos, and logos. These three persuasive techniques all appeal to the audience in a different way. Ethos are phrases that relate to ethics or morals and make oneself sound fair and unbiased.
In the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, Brutus uses Rhetorical strategy of pathos most effectively to appeal to the heart of the Romans that he had killed Caesar for the good of Rome. In the funeral of Caesar, Brutus gives his speech, in which he says, “There is tears for his love, joy for his fortune, honor for his valor and death for his ambitions” (Shakespeare 3.2.26-27). In this speech, Brutus uses pathos to appeal to the Romans that he loved and admired Caesar, though he had to kill him for his bad ambitions which could have been a potential harm to the Romans. Saying that he loved and admired Caesar would touch the heart of the general men of Rome and convince them to think that Brutus didn’t kill Caesar for any of his personal
In the play Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare Rome is struck with utter disorder after certain characters use ethos, pathos and logos to manipulate the people of Rome.
