Is Your Life Really Worth It?
She was only 20 years of age. She had a lot dreams that she wanted to accomplish, but it came to an end on September 19, 1999. Jacqueline along with four of her friends were in a car driving in Austin, when they were hit by a drunk driver. The car in which Jacqueline was riding caught on fire. Two of her friends died, but she survived with severe burns that covered over 60% of her body. In this ad, the author seemed to put her face as the center piece. The image comes from the Save a Life Campaign in which their mission is to stop people from drinking and driving so the image is very rational. Several of emotions can be interpreted from this advertisement. Perhaps sadness and hurt for what happened to this young girl, or even anger when thinking about what the drunk driver did to the girl which ruined her life. Another emotion can include fear of this tragic accident happening to them. In this ad, the author uses pathos a lot of pathos to get his point across. When you initially set eyes on the ad, the first thing you may notice is Jacqueline’s face. The audience may have some sort of emotion while looking at this photo due to the brutality of the incident. The audience may show some sort of sympathy towards her due to what happened to her. In this ad, there are words that help us try to interpret the message. The message in this ad is pretty straight forward as you can tell. The quote in the ad says, “Not everyone who gets it by a drunk driver dies”. Not everyone dies, but getting hit by a drunk driver may change your whole life drastically just like it did to Jacqueline Saburido. The author uses so many different type of persuasion to get his point around. The title on the middle of the ad says it all, in terms of being persuasive. Some people may interpret the message differently than others. At the end of the day, the message is very clear and understandable.
