Three appeals: ethos, logos, pathos. The three appeals ethos, pathos and logos also referred to as rhetorical appeals are the art of persuasion that classifies the speaker‘s appeal to the audience. The rhetorical appeals are relevant to use when analyzing the representation of the Isreali&Palestinian conflict, because we often receive our informations of the conflict through the media. Therefore, it is worthy to examine how these informations are deliver to the audience, because the way they are constructed and delivered has a major influence on how we perceive the conflict. The media uses each of these three appeals to appeal to a specific side of a person, ethos appeals to the ethical side of a person, logos to the logical side and pathos to emotions. Ethos is the first thing we notice according to Dr. John R. Edlund. Therefor it also creates the first impression of the speaker, which effects our perception of the speaker. Ethos is a Greek word which is also defined as ethics, ethical or in modern translation as ‘’Image.’’ Ethos addresses the speaker character as it appears to the audience. As Aristotle said that if a speaker has qualities such as a good sense, good moral character, goodwill, the speaker will appear more reliable to us, and we can use an example if an actor wears a white coat it will increase his reliability and it will be easier to sell products such as medicine.
