Eugene McCarthy To this day, Eugene McCarthy is known as one of the most prominent political officials to be elected out of the state of Minnesota. Being both elected into the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate display the great achievements that this man has received. His many terms served as congressmen for Minnesota propelled him to run for the candidacy of the U.S. President. His views in the Vietnam War Era helped McCarthy challenge incumbent Lyndon B. Johnson for presidential nomination. Although he never successfully sought out the seat of president, he left a mark on America that will last forever. He would graduate from Saint John’s University in 1935. He continued to increase his education by obtaining a master’s degree from the University of Minnesota. While acquiring his master’s degree, McCarthy taught at various public schools across both Minnesota and North Dakota (“Eugene McCarthy.”). Finally finishing his master’s degree in 1939, McCarthy had an affinity for education. With this love, he was appointed as a professor of economics and education at his alma mater, Saint John’s University. McCarthy’s views on the Vietnam War almost led him to becoming the president of the United States. His drive for antiwar sparked the young American people to believe there is a chance. These young Americans were the people on the front lines, risking their life for America. McCarthy believed that the war should end, so the lives of many Americans can be saved. His vast knowledge of many subjects would have led him to do many great things while in office. Education was a ginormous aspect of his life. After teaching for many years, McCarthy obtained views that not many are able to obtain. His wit and intelligence could have driven him to succeed in the White House. His political career was very successful with having accomplished a multitude of accomplishments while in the House of Representatives and the Senate. Not all goals are easy to reach, but the effort and passion that is displayed while trying to achieve that goal can display nearly as mush as receiving the goal
