1. Eugenia Phelan, also known as Skeeter, is my favorite character out of all the others in the book. Skeeter became my favorite character because in my opinion her personal life situations are very relatable to most problems young people have today. Her problems, such as not being able to meet her mother’s expectations, her struggle to become something she is passionate about and her questioning about why everything is the way it is, helped the readers to connect with her as many people have come across situations like these commonly. 2. Writing means everything to Skeeter. It’s everything she is passionate about as she went through college and graduated with a degree in English and Journalism. She attempted to make a huge jump in towards …show more content…

While each one of the three could face terrible consequences, I think that either Aibileen or Minny is more at stake for being involved. Worst case scenario, both of them could get beaten up on the street, house burned down, jailed or killed. If I had to choose one, it’ll be Minny because there are people who are out for her, especially Hilly where she can ruin her life. 6. Everything seems to work out pretty well for Skeeter, Aibileen and Minny in the end. I do think the ending is fitting for each of the characters. Skeeter was offered an editor’s assistant position in New York and decided to move because if she stayed it’ll only be worse for her. Minny decided to leave her abusive husband and continues to work for Johnny and Celia Foote, who treats her better than any white person. 7. I can see how ten years later the three would be successful. Aibileen continues to write for the Jackson Journal but not just the Miss Myrna column. She is happily living her life as a journalist. Skeeter finds herself very successful in New York working with Elaine Stein. Minny enjoys taking care of the Foote …show more content…

Commonly, white men have jobs and is in charge of the family. White women usually tend to stay at home and care for their child. The men will have better jobs and pay as evident when Skeeter was looking for a job. It goes the same for black men and women, but a level lower due to racial and gender inequality combined. Most black women are working as maids for white families while the men do the hard, back breaking jobs, both still receive less pay. I realized that Skeeter set multiple examples throughout the book that stands out of the gender stereotypes and examples of feminism. For example, being tall and not dating or marrying a guy during college. 9. I find it interesting to be able to relate back in the past especially history. Racism is one the issues we still have today, and it was a major problem back in the sixties where everyone is segregated unlike
