Eulogy of Charlemagne

I am sad to say, in the year of 814, that my dear friend Charlemagne has passed away from the horrid sickness Pleurisy. We are not here to mourn though. Today we are here to celebrate the amazing life and the great accomplishments of Charlemagne. Rome would not be the place it is if it weren’t for Charlemagne. He knew patience would lead to success in his rule. That is why he made the 30 year plan in 772 to turn the Saxons into civilized Christian people. He also stopped the spread of the Avars, so that their barbaric ways would not hurt our society. He even convinced the rouge and frightening Bavarians to commit and be loyal to him! I, of course, questioned him on what was going on and he said that Pope Leo III crowned him Emperor! His large self exuded the disbelief that someone would think so highly of him. You could see the exhaustion on his face though. We all know that he would stay up much later than all of us, meticulously planning for his kingdom, his army, and mentally preparing himself so that he could accomplish all the great things he is known for today. His pleasant demeanor made him so friendly, but that mood could change quickly with the right incentive. My favorite memories of Charlemagne take place when got away from the court and participated in some hobbies we both had. We both thoroughly enjoyed being outside and riding the horses, hunting, and swimming in the nearby river! Charlemagne will be missed dearly by all of us. Maybe not all of the nobles since he limited a lot of their authority (cue laugh)! But his way of rule, his organized ways, his strong authority, and his spirit will be missed dearly by those who knew him personally and even people who haven’t met him but lived underneath his rule. I am sure that the presence of everyone here today would have meant the world to Charlemagne, I know that Louis and I
