WWII had many profound effects on Europe’s economy that are still evident today. Directly following WWII, many economic changes were made to combat the economic devastation in Europe. For example, the OEEC, or The Organisation for European Economic Cooperation, has impacted many countries in Europe and across the world, and is still in place today as the OECD. Propaganda had an extreme effect on the relationships between countries in the East and the West. The war was the catalyst of many major decisions and ideas, like the Marshall Plan and the Molotov Plan, and resulted in inflation and major economical changes. There is no doubt that WWII is responsible for much of what Europe is today.

NATO was created to protect the west from communist influence by ensuring that if one country was attacked by a communist country, the other countries would assist them. Propaganda affected many relationships between countries in Europe and the rest of the world. The Red Scare was when the threat of communists in the U.S. became overwhelming. It was called the Red Scare because the communists were referred to as “reds” because of the Soviet flag. During this time federal employees were checked to see if they were loyal to the government.
