Have you ever wondered about the causes, events, and resolution of the Civil War? The Civil War was a major event in America’s history that helped shape the country we know today. Many causes, events, and resolutions accrued leading to and after the war. There were many causes leading up to the American Civil War. Some of these included slavery, the cotton gin, westward expansion, and the Compromise of 1850. Slavery has been a topic of discussion since America broke free from Great Britain. It was a very divisive topic for many people and states. Many people and states in the South wanted to keep slavery because of the invention of the cotton gin. The First Battle of Bull Run was the first major clash between Union and Confederate troops. This battle took place near Manassas Junction, Virginia, securing the first battle for the Confederate armies and breaking northerners' hopes of winning the war. The Battle of Antietam was planned by Confederate leaders in hopes of breaking the Union's spirit by getting a victory in northern territory and gaining aid from European countries.
