Defacing Anxiety In the 2016 Everyday Health Article “What Is Anxiety?”, Lindsey Konkel describes what things can cause awkwardness. Awkwardness is the feeling we all get at some point in our lives. Even if it's not long-lived we all have felt nervous and uneasy. What if it weren't just awkwardness you felt? Anxiety is a serious dilemma, a dilemma that we have the power to extinguish. To stop this issue we must know our enemy. We need to break it down into its “building blocks.” Lindsey Konkel goes on to explain that Anxiety is a feeling of timidity, in a way. The known types of Anxiety are phobias, Panic disorder, Separation Anxiety disorder,
Post-traumatic stress disorder “PTSD”, Social anxiety, Panic disorder, Obsessive compulsive disorder “OCD”, and Generalized anxiety disorder or “GAD”. Knowing all of this you must be wondering, “ Why does this matter, what effect does this have in the world?”. It is of importance because anxiety is very common. Anxiety can be a major part of depression. Half of the people with depression also have anxiety disorders. In this article Lindsey Konkel states (Konkel pg 2) “ The Centers for Disease Control and prevention (CDC) estimates that around 15 percent of people will have an anxiety disorder in their lifetime.” Knowing now that Anxiety is common and what it can lead to, we must look into what causes it. The main reasons for anxiety is the personal experiences and yet-to-be discovered genetic factors. It's no wonder so many people are extremely nervous. Considering there is a large majority of people who have some sort of Anxiety disorder, there should be more effort to prevent these disorders. Anxiety can lead to something worse, that is guaranteed to cause more delays in your everyday activity. All of its symptoms can cause a drastic change in how you deal with certain items or it can change your way of thinking into something negative. To culminate, Anxiety is a topic of high importance to discuss. Lindsey Konkel did an excellent job to construe what anxiety is and what it can become. To summarize this article, Anxiety is a disorder of many faces, not only is it common, but it could negatively lead into something more. Additionally anxiety is caused by a person's past experience and genetic factors. We do not yet have a way to prevent it, but with this article we are more than capable of identifying who has anxiety and who doesn't. Since we know who does or doesn't have it, we can attempt to assist the people who do. This article can be the stepping stone to creating a better world. With help of a majority of people, the ones who have lived in constant fear could easily remain at ease and become so much more
