Heritage is a huge factor to every family. It’s invaluable because it contains a family’s memories and glories. Everyone would be proud of their family heritage as well as the speaker in “Digging” by Seamus Heaney and the character of Dee in “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker. In both texts, the stories revolve around heritages and demonstrate how the main characters deal with it. However, the speaker and Dee have great disparate points of view on the value of family heritage. The speaker understands how to esteem family traditions, whereas Dee is idealistic that she doesn’t make a real move to save her heritage but violates it disrespectfully. Hence, the speaker would aruge with Dee on how to appreciate and respect.
