In the game of life, sometimes people are dealt a deck of cards that start off great but end up awful. Before anyone realizes it the first part of their life is over. Then there comes a choice “what next?” “Lou Holtz once said, ‘How you response to the challenge in the second half will determine what you become after the game, whether you are a winner or a loser.’” In the book Bleachers, the main character Neely Crenshaw is dealt a deck of cards much like that. After Neely takes one hit after another, he does not know what to do until he finds himself back in his hometown for his old coach’s funeral.
Chris’ relationship with Walt was not very good but was not very bad. Walt was able to give money to Chris whenever he needed. Once Chris find out that he was still with another women to whom he was married to he did not have a good relationship wit him. Prior to the beginning of his case, Krakauer did not know much about Chris' escapade, only that he was an extreme follower of simplistic values. Chris was witnessed to be carrying "[minimal] gear," including "[just] a ten-pound bag of rice... cheap leather hiking boots... [and] a tattered state road map" (Krakauer 5). Yet, regardless of the "harsh conditions" (Krakauer 5) he was well aware of, since the ground was still "buried under the winter snow," (Krakauer 5) Chris still willingly brought as little as possible with him to Alaska.

After graduating from college Chris seemed to change. He said things like “an epic journey that would change everything”, that he saw college as “an absurd and onerous duty”, and that heading on this adventure made him feel free “from the stifling world of his parents and peers, a world or abstraction and security and material excess”. Her Nanny could be the cause of why she loses all of the Happiness of her life. Also why she can’t stay with one man. Gaines, Jefferson was wrongly convicted of being a murderer and robbing a store and was sentenced to death. Jefferson's meaningful relationships with Grant and other characters help him to realize he is human and help him become one again. Grants meaningful relationships with Jefferson and others help him improve his mental state and change how he thinks.
What stands out the most me to in We the Animal by Justin Torres is, the cycle of abuse that is going on and how it constantly affects the children. In this book the main character's father constantly beats their mother. One example is in the beginning of the chapter “Big Dick Truck,” the main character's father buys a truck. And the mother starts questions the father on why he would buy a truck when they have kids. She feels as though it wouldn't be safe.
In the book “Two Kinds” by Amy Tan, it’s about a little girl who is pressured by her mother to become something she doesn’t want to be. Jing- mei , the daughter, is forced to become a prodigy(child actress), by her mother, and she doesn’t want to be one. In the story, Jing- meis’ mother uses allusions such as Shirley Temple to push her into becoming a prodigy. Although at first Jing- mei is excited to become a prodigy, she later realizes its something she just doesn’t enjoy doing. Consequently, the uses of allusion in the story help Jing- mei discover to not be a prodigy and that what her mother wants for her is not always important.
No one lives alone in the world. From the beginning of life, we have someone around us. Watching and talking with our surroundings, we learn many important life lessons. Depending on the people who are around us, we will grow up differently because we interact each other and influence one’s personality. The Pulitzer Prize – winning author Junot Diaz depicts the pattern of human involvement in them in his novel, “This Is How You Lose Her”, shows the readers specific examples of their relationships.
In the novel Wonder by R.J Palacio, a number of symbols help to show Auggie's journey as he goes through the struggles of school. The different symbols and how they represent Auggie's journey are referred to throughout the novel. Auggie's masks, his Padawan braid and the universe are all used to symbolise his journey. Along the story line, Auggie wears a range of different masks.
Cormac McCarthy’s The Road is a novel based on a post apocalyptic world. The Road tells a story of a father and a son who are part of the small number of survivors. We follow the father and the son's journey, on the state road to the south. On their journey the father and son struggle to survive, while also facing some obstacles. Those obstacle include the lack of food, water and shelter.

In Charlotte Perkins Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper", the narrator of the story is constantly at battle with many different forces, such as John, her husband, the yellow wallpaper that covers the walls of her room, and ultimately herself. Throughout the story the narrator further detaches herself from her life and becomes fixated on the yellow wallpaper that surrounds her in her temporary home, slowly driving her mad. The narrator of "The Yellow Wallpaper" is a major and dynamic character as she is the main character of the story, and throughout the story her personality and ways of thinking change drastically.
Stephanie Plum, Morelli, and Ranger are three main characters in the book, One for the Money, by Janet Evanovich. Stephanie is a young woman struggling to get by in the city of Trenton, New Jersey. After losing her job, she goes against her family’s request and gets the dangerous job of a bounty hunter. She gets assigned Joe Morelli, who was accused of murder and who happened to be a childhood enemy. Stephanie is very inexperienced and receives help from a professional bounty hunter, Ranger.
