As many people believe, everything happens for a reason. In my opinion, I believe that the future is knowable and predetermined in most instances. I feel that we can access and reasonably know what will occur within the short term future based on how we react to our situations and events that occur in our lives. The way that we react to events will then lead to the effectiveness and future of what we have done There is a reason that people conclude that everything happens for reason and that things occur in a specific manner. Connecting this idea that “everything happens for a reason” with Hamlet, a tragic Shakespearean play that is acknowledged worldwide can be done by analyzing one of the key characters in the story, Polonius. Polonius is a man who has been adequately portrayed in Hamlet as a character with an extremely self-centered, manipulative and a foolish sneaky mindset which eventually resulted in his tragic death. This mindset that Polonius encompassed negatively affected him throughout the novel and will further be explored when analyzing his multitude of personalities.

Polonius chose to use his daughter Ophelia to spy on Hamlet during Act III Scene I. During this moment in the act Polonius was becoming increasingly interested in Hamlet and what he was doing. He desired to use Ophelia to assess Hamlet’s sanity and but while doing this it risked his own daughter’s sanity. Additionally this shows the immoral desires of Polonius and how he was truly looking out for his children’s best interest in the end and only desired to advance him in society.
