The practice of nursing has changed over the years from a task-oriented job to a science-based profession (Brown, 2013). With this change, research studies have become a pivotal part of the nursing profession, providing the information that is used to expand, improve, and generate new nursing knowledge (Brown, 2013). Evidence-based practices (EBP) in nursing are based on the best available research data generated from these studies (Weng et al., 2013). An example of the research used in documenting an EBP was found in an article by Hammonds et al. (2015). Both groups participated in a pre-study survey and a manual count of their antidepressant medications (Hammonds et al., 2015). One of the participant groups was taught how to use a medication compliance mobile app and how to enter the required responses to the automated prompts that were necessary to track medication compliance (Hammonds et al., 2015).
