Curse, and other taboo words are constantly being changed, and reshaped, some words tend to disappeared through the time. In Joss Whedon's, 2012 The Avengers the dramatic scene, when Loki calls Black Widow a “mewling quim”, it comes from an outdated British profanity. Mewling quim, was defined in the 16th century as “ whimpering vagina”. The definition changed through the 19th to an act of sexual penetration. The word quim exists to this day, although it’s first definition is out-of-date. To this day words are becoming more or less taboo. The new subdivisons of words that likely to trouble people seem to be changing carelessly. In many situations, the Modern English definition of certain words tend to me more offensive compared to the previous centuries. This being the result of society, and the evolution of language through media and many different culture changes, both in the way we promote information, and with respect to what most confuses us. Jesse Sheidlower, and editor for the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), says “ when a word is felt to be old-fashioned, another word takes its place.” In most circumstances, grammatical, syntax, and even prefix shifts have taken place over the course of time. Concerning the modern day, media seems to be rapidly breaking down the taboo quality of curse words. Technology also helps with this creation, and the spread of new curse words, but it also helps to exaggerate the word, which is the result of the cause of a decrease in the taboo.
