To begin, the Klu Klux Klan is an organization whose purpose is to terrorize people of color. Dressed in all white, their identities are hidden as they attack in the dead of night. The KKK is founded by a group of confederate veterans in 1865, and their goal was to end Reconstruction. The Klan only recruited members who were male, white, and not Jew. Former Confederate Nathaniel Bedford Forrest tried to stop the organization for, “...the Klan’s violent tactics grew too extreme” (Source 1).
The KKK was a white nationalized group that included former veterans, which created the first branch of the group. The Klansmen founded in 1865, in Pulaski, Tennessee, is now known as the birthplace of the KKK. This group dedicated themselves to a campaign of violence to Republican leaders and voters. Up until the Ku Klux Act, the Ku Klux Klan’s (KKK) influence spread throughout the Southern states and acted as a violent and driving continuation of the Confederate movement after the Civil War. It was created right after the Civil War by six Confederate Army veterans. Not only had the South just suffered their most humiliating military loss, but they also lost the institution of slavery, money, government power and beloved family members. As a result of their loss in the Civil War and the emancipation of their slaves, the Southern white man felt great embarrassment and humiliation. Though he could not preserve the institution of slavery, he now felt an obligation to preserve and reassert white supremacy.

The Ku Klux Klan is a white supremacist group that ruined the lives of millions of African Americans. The Ku Klux Klan founded in 1915 by a William J. Simmons, who was a Methodist preacher, who had groups, or “klaverns”, in Alabama plus Georgia. In American history there has been three waves of the Ku Klux Klan. First was the Reconstruction-era Klan. They started in the South towards the conclusion of the Civil War that had a few thousand members.
In the book “The Things They Carried” two stories show that shame is a strong feeling that human beings experienced and can make humans do things that they wouldn’t do. What it came down to, stupidly, was a sense of shame.
The KKK was founded in the post-Civil War era by Nathaniel Bedford Forest. The Klan began in early 1866 as a harmless organization of young, former confederate soldiers in Pulaski, Tennessee. The Klan took on disguises, secret signs, and rituals similar to other fraternal groups.
The KKK got its name from the Greek word Kuklos which means circle (Klu Klux Klan in the Reconstruction Era). The KKK was formed after the federal government withdrew from the south and the Jim crow Laws were put into place (Southern Poverty Law Center). The KKK had a primary goal was to defeat the Republican Party and keep blacks from gaining rights a freedom. The Northerners were disgusted by the KKK’s violence. Therefore, they gave their support towards the 15th amendment which gave all black men the right to vote and the First Reconstruction Act of 1867 (American Experience).
The KKK was founded in 1886 by old Confederate soldiers who did not believe the Reconstruction act of the Civil War. The clan demised slightly, then resurfaced in 1915. Prior to the 1920’s, the clan only focused on Africa-Americans. But during the twenties they not only focused on the hatred of African-Americans, but they also began to focus on the hatred of Catholics, Jews, and immigrants. (6)
The Ku Klux Klan or KKK has created centuries of fear. They originated in Pulaski, Tennessee. The famous hate group was out to re establish white supremacy. The KKK has influenced local governments and people in power. It has also had an impact on American people and specifically black minorities.
First and foremost, it is important to have a glimpse at the Klan's history from its founding and the growth of the Klan throughout the years. The Klan originated in the aftermath of the Civil War during the Reconstruction era of America in the 1860's (1). In December of 1865, six former Confederate officers met in Pulaski, Tennesse, and formed the original Ku Klux Klan (2). People wanting to join the Klan were required to be opposed to policies of the Radical party or any other group with opposing views (2). Possible members were also required to be against African American equality both social and political in favor of a white man's government (2).
The Klu Klux Klan was a terrorist clan that consisted of the white elite or white plantation owners. This terrorist group started in 1865 and was a hate group for many different communities. The KKK was considered as a secret society who did their own form of oppression to the black community. Thankfully the government stepped in and the 3 enforcement acts was enforced. The 3 enforcement acts restricted the klan which was a huge success.
The analysis and finding of the Ku Klux Klan is that this extremist group is also associated as a hate group as time evolved with the definition of hate groups and todays extremist Christian groups. This data and finding has been accumulated from research of the origin of the Ku Klux Klan and their extreme actions in carrying out what they believed to be the right forum of saving America from those they identified as not being of American decent. Throughout history they have intimidated those whom are not so called pure white and their belief in racial superiority over all nationalities. These accounts have been verified though quantitative research approach though out history by historians.
