Examine an example of contemporary social action related to a religious tradition. The definition of Human Dignity means that each person on this earth should be treated equally and given the same quality of life. The Catholic understanding of human dignity is that humans were all created in God’s image and despite what people think ALL humans have an immeasurable worth. An example of human dignity in the Bible is Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” This shows us that God created each person in his image and that he has made us unique in different ways. It began in 1966 when Bishop Reginald Delargey was chosen to create a National Commission of Missions and Overseas Aid. This gathered information on New Zealand Catholic overseas aid and then reported back to a nation conference in 1968. Then in 1998 the organisation was named “Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand - the Catholic Agency for Justice Peace and Development.”
Caritas helps to build human dignity
Human Dignity helps us to understand that each person deserves the same quality of life and that we were all made equally by the same God. Caritas supports this ethical principle because they help people around the world who are in an environment of poverty and/or injustice where they are unable to enjoy the life that God has gifted to them.
