Counselor Definition:
I’m interested in pursuing the Master of Science in School Counseling program to obtain licensure as a school counselor. Becoming a licensed school counselor would allow me to encourage the students I work with to succeed in terms of their academic, social, and emotional development. I am sure that I will be able to have a beneficial influence on their life. As a school counselor, I would be able to encourage students during trying moments and support them in realizing their full potential. I worked as a cashier in retail for about 3 years which gave me lots of customer service experience. It also taught me to pay attention to detail and problem-solve. I also worked as a Registered Behavior Technician for about 2 years which taught me to empathize with clients and their families, remain neutral and professional in high-stress situations, being flexible and adaptable. However, I have run into someone that didn’t have the same religion and beliefs as me and it went well. We had different beliefs but they were somewhat similar. We talked about our differences and found common ground for us and were able to become really good friends.
Self-Care:
The most effective activity I do when I’m stressed is exercising. I don’t always have access to a gym so it could vary from a run to doing planks in the house. Quiet time has been effective for me as well. I sometimes get in the car and go to a park or take a drive with no music or anything and just breathe and take in the quietness. Listening to gospel music helps put my mind at ease. If I’m having problems that involve another person, I like to take a moment to breathe and think and then talk it out to find some common ground.
