5) During the Revolutionary War, some Colonists wanted to remain loyal to the King while others did not. Give reasons for this. During the American Revolution people were often either Patriots or Loyalists. Patriots were people who wanted the American Colonies to be independence from Britain.
Freedom Even though the colonists did not have a clear understanding of freedom because they were under the rule of a tyrant, the Speech in the Virginia Convention and Crisis #1, written by Patrick Henry and Thomas Paine, both motivated the colonists and congress to aspire and achieve freedom. Thomas Paine and Patrick Henry both used very similar quotes to motivate the colonists into realizing that fighting the British king would grant them freedom at last. No matter how many times the American colonists attempted to resolve things through petitions, remonstrations, and arguments the British were right there, smiling insidiously, but only proved to snare their feet. The colonists were tired of these lies and insults, so this is where Paine and Henry step in.
Along with the many colonists that wanted to see the colonies become separated from the mother country there were debaters. People that owed big money to Great Britain were patriots as if they became separated from the mother country the debtors hoped that all debt owed would be abolished. Also similarly to the loyalists the patriots were mainly from one spot, not to say there couldn’t be patriots in the southern colonies or vice versa, but many patriots came from the new england colonies such as Massachusetts, Rhode Island, etc… Document 4 was written by Thomas Paine, a very influential patriot who explained in his writing why the loyalist arguments were wrong or at least he thought so. According to paine Great Britain did not protect her colonies because her motive was centered around self interest and she wanted to protect Britain from her enemies to benefit those living in Britain. Paine also described Great Britain's behavior as savage and shameful as, ‘even brutes don’t devour their own and nor even do savages, make war upon their family.’
Who revolted in the American Revolution? There were two main groups of people during the American Revolution, Loyalists and Patriots. Of these two groups, it was the Patriots who revolted. Loyalists were people who wanted to stay part of Britain and remain British citizens whereas Patriots were people who wanted the American colonies to gain their independence from Britain.
Loyalist were the group of Americans that were most likely to remain loyal to England. The loyalist were about 20% of the colonies population and even though they believed King George III wasn’t doing anything wrong some of them even fought in the war against England. Loyalist believed in John Locke’s theory about natural rights and limited government. The loyalist just wanted peace between America and King George III. Loyalist lived all over the colonies.
Many, if not all, Americans today continue to cherish the Declaration of Independence, hailing it as one of the most significant artifacts in national history. “It speaks of liberty from Great Britain and sets the framework for the United States of America,” they may explain. This mindset, however, has intensified over the past year, its believers resorting to calls for major control against outsiders seeking a better life and bellowing their disdain for international assistance, yet another resurgence of hegemonic jingoism in the land that is “made for you and me.” Said pseudo patriots also continue to share a consensus regarding the right of revolution, in which they may rebel should the government turn to tyranny or fail to serve the public.
Patriot and Loyalists are two very different sides of points of view. Patriots support America and becoming an independent nation, while the loyalists support the king and staying one big country. The Patriot s and the Loyalists both thought the othe rwas in the wrong. The Loyalists think that the Patriots are in the wrong because they are overlooking there own rights and intrests. " ... that they have overlooked the rights of Great Britain and our own interest. "
Loyalists- Were colonists in the new world who remained loyal to the British king during the American Revolutionary War. This was a significant factor because it gave the British key advantages in increasing their soldier count, provided housing and supplies, and strategic territorial advantages in loyalist areas such as new York City that offered a vast harbor for the British navy. 4. All Patriots believe that a government should be willing to listen to all citizens. A citizen is a part of your colony and they deserve to vote on what they can and cannot do. You shouldn’t be forced to follow laws made by a bunch of people who don’t necessarily care about you, but a group of kindhearted people who care about you and are willing to listen to
The colonies have been part of the British crown for 168 years now, but independence is something that America needs. The British had created high taxes with unreasonable causes since they just went to war with the French and Indians in American territory, but colonists should not comply the King’s whims no more. American colonists demand independence since freedom is limited by Britain; for this reason, colonists are thinking about how to obtain it.. The British have planted a seed of hatred in the American colonists thanks to the treatment they have given; consequently, colonists are seeking revenge with the British. Due to the fact that the British have mistreated the Americans, the majority of the American colonists may agree with Patrick Henry and are willing to risk their lives for the freedom that Americans deserve.
Junior year was a bit challenging for me. It was not challenging because of the work, but I joined a career program. I had to keep up with both of my schools. For me to be successful with so many things going on, I had to stay organized and think ahead. My success was that I kept all my grades above a C+.
Our Founding Fathers were merely men, but they utilized their strengths and conquered their weaknesses to propel themselves into godlike statuses that molded each and every one of them into prominent historical figures. Katori Hall explained this perfectly when she said “We expect our leaders to be godlike. But I feel that when people try to sanctify leadership it puts it out of the realm of regular people. And that’s where the greatest leaders come from – from the people.” Our Founding Fathers harnessed their personal strengths and weaknesses, but this alone wasn’t enough to help them to succeed.
