This paper will delve into the approach of crisis intervention (CI), evaluating its strengths, limitations, personal connection, and application in future social work practice. Through an analysis of the core principles, techniques, and practical implications, the aim is to underscore the significance of crisis intervention in addressing acute psychological distress and fostering resilience among individuals and communities. The approach involves description, explanation, and prediction/control (Dumbrill & Yee, 2019). Crisis intervention is a brief, immediate, and goal-oriented therapeutic approach designed to help individuals facing acute stressors or traumatic events. It aims to provide immediate relief, stabilize the individual, and restore their functioning to a pre-crisis level. This approach acknowledges that crises can disrupt an individual’s ability to cope, leading to emotional distress, impaired decision making and potential harm to oneself or others. Crisis intervention is often employed by mental health professionals, counselors, social workers, and first responders in various settings such as hospitals, schools, and community organizations to address a wide range of crises including but not limited to, natural disasters, personal loss, domestic violence, and suicidal ideation.
