Seinfeld, like many sitcoms, uses a multiple plotline structure. In each episode, there are at least four separate plotlines, usually one for each of the primary characters: Jerry, George, Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), and Kramer (Michael Richards). Each of the characters in the show have personalities that stand out. For the scene in “The Pitch”, the characters that are the most prevalent are Jerry, George, and Kramer. Jerry, who is often depicted as "the voice of reason" in the show, is a mild germaphobe comedian who finds some of the most ridiculous things disturbing like oversized hands and only eating peas one at a time. In this scene, he stands out as the “voice of reason” due to him keeping George in line when he says “George!” almost every time George said something over the top or embarrassing. George is a dishonest, ridiculous, petty person who envious of others' achievements. He is depicted as a loser who is perpetually insecure about his capabilities. He complains and lies easily about his profession, relationships and almost everything else, which usually creates trouble for him later. Despite these shortcomings, George has a sense of loyalty to his friends as well. In “The Pitch” he gave Jerry the idea of making the NBC show about “nothing”. He also was trying to spell the last names of the NBC executives, which plays off of his ridiculousness. Kramer is Jerry’s whacky neighbor who never holds a steady job and has a very interesting personality. He is gullible, and ignorant, and at other times, intelligent, understanding, and well-read. Similarly, he is exaggeratedly successful, socially, with his charisma and laid-back personality.
