Rhetoric Through Out Our Lives Finding rhetoric through out our lives is not hard because it is everywhere. Most people don't know either what rhetoric is or where and how to find it. In rhetoric there are three main components of persuasion, ethos, pathos, and logos. Each different component works in differ-ent ways to persuade people to possibly do a task or change a way of thinking. This is how many commercials on television and sometimes the radio get people to purchase their products, one such commercial is the Kmart “I just shipped my pants.” The Kmart commercial works as a well thought out head turning commercial. The family can help connect to the audience because most people have a family where they may need to buy pants for their kids. It is very convenient for a young and or busy family to ship what they need from a store to their house and especially if it is free. The family in the commercial at the end is very happy and hugs the Kmart worker, this is over the top but give a message. The family is very pleased enough with the service to hug a stranger. It also shows an older couple shipping their pants. This is also very smart because they are appealing to older people who may not have a the means to get out of the house to buy things in the store. It will show that the service is very convenient for them in Logos refers to the message and the clarity of the claim, the logic of its reasons, and the ef-fectiveness of its supporting evidence in order to convenes or persuade someone of something. To gain a strong logos one must clearly and affectively say what they need to say when it needs to be said with out give to little or to much detail. They are saying “You can ship your pants right here” and “If you can’t find what you are looking for in store, you’ll find it at kmart.com right now and ship it to you for free.” The sails people only have two lines throughout the forty second commercial but that is because of the wording and how effective it is getting the message a crossed. Over all this ad is doing a good job using rhetoric to get its point a cross. The Kmart ad is able to get its point across using funny and stereotypical scenarios. When the people say “I just shipped my pants, drawers, nighty, and bed” it puts in your mind of the stereotypical saying of “shitting” something. Which in most cases people will fined very funny. In this case most people do. This ad is also trying to get you to go online for shopping. With everything having free shipping it is more likely that someone will buy something out of the millions of products online. If you have one product in your online cart why not add something else while your at it and maybe something for your kid or maybe that special someone? This is how online shopping works you keep adding more things to the cart and once it is in the cart there is a more likely chance for it to be bought.
