There are many examples of personification in Dunbar’s poem “Evening.” For example almost the entire first stanza (except for the third line) is one big example of personification. I will a specific example of Dunbar using personification in the third and fourth line of the second stanza. “The coffers of the air are filled” “With offerings from the flowers.” A coffer is a box, or chest used to store valuables. Dunbar says that the flowers have “filled” the “coffers” of the air with “offerings.” Which would literally mean the air is filled with pollen. Dunbar’s use of personification contributes to the meaning of the poem. As, through personification, Dunbar increases the memorability of the poem. It also keeps the reader hooked on the poem,
