Classical Author Autobiography

I was born on May 13, 1907, in London, England. I was the middle of three daughters of my father, the prominent actor-manager Sir Gerald du Maurier and my mother, actress Muriel Beaumont. I was born into a very theatrical family that was very popular during the time period that in 1929 my father leased our family name to a tobacco company. I had a very strong bond with my father who would later be the inspiration for one of my books. During my adolescence, I began wishing I was born a boy. I wanted to be independent from my family’s inheritance and wanted to have a real sense of freedom and liberation from the endless social pressures that came with the family name. So, I holed myself up in a vacation house in Cornwall, England which my family bought a few years earlier and began writing my first novel in late, October of 1929. I had written a collection of short stories before titled The Seekers in 1925, but never a novel before.
