All the Same Yet Treated so Differently
Some people say that African Americans are getting treated better now than they used to, but in reality, they still get treated unfairly and get hated because of the color of their skin. Many years have gone by since African Amercians were able to have rights but for some reason, people still seem to see them in a horrible way as if they don’t deserve to be treated equally as everyone else. Some people tend to live in the past because of their ancestors and that’s what causes people to dislike African Americans because they were born and raised with those stereotypes. These stereotypes cause people to become stuck in the past instead of moving forward and accepting people no matter the color

One of the many examples that shows how African Americans get treated differently is Ruby Bridges. Ruby Bridges was the first African American child to attend an all white elementary school in 1960. While attending school, she was discriminated against and treated differently from the rest. Although this was the situation, Bridges continued to go to school no matter what they said or thought about her, and no matter how she was treated. Her act of bravery is what changed history because no other African American had attended an all white school and it was something new to everyone. Many parents were against having a six year old African American attend an all white elementary school with the rest of their kids and they wanted her out of the school and didn’t want their kids around her to the point that they even threatened her and shouted at the six year old girl because the thought of Ruby being in the school with their kids disgusted them so much. Floyd was an African American that got pulled over by a police officer. He was asked to get out of the car and then the police officer proceeded to pin George Floyd down to the ground. The officer put his knee to Floyd’s neck, which had him gasping for air because of how much pressure the officer had on his neck, causing him to struggle immensely to breathe. This happened in 2020, which was not that long ago. This situation occurred because of the fact that Floyd was an African American. If it had been a White American, it wouldn’t have gotten that far and no one would’ve gotten murdered on that day. When it has to do with the law and police officers, African Amerians always get treated completely differently from White Americans and there is still no difference shown from years
