Amendments & Aphorisms Is it possible to compare two random texts to one another by using amendments and aphorisms? Well, the answer is yes. You can do so by looking for the key theme even by one word. This can be shown by comparing aphorisms found in ” Poor Richard’s Almanack” to amendments from “The United States Constitution: The Bill of Rights”. What are some examples of this from these texts? One of the examples comes from Amendment #2 found in “The United States Constitution: The Bill of Rights”, which states the following, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The second half comes from verse 11 of “Poor Richard’s Almanack”, which states, “God helps them that help themselves”. We can see that both indicate that you can be nice to others and allow them to come into your home but don’t let them see you or your home ultimately. This can lead to unwelcomed guests who try and force themselves into your home but cannot do so or else they can be charged which might have negative consequences on you later down the road because of the unwelcomed guest's
