The main theme in Beowulf is that bravery is always needed when in a battle. All throughout the story Beowulf is referred to as a hero and a warrior. The book shows that Beowulf is a hero to the Geets. He has a lot of people that follow and look up to him. In the movie Beowulf is shown as a brave hero but it also shows his flaws. There are 3 main battles that beowulf faces and each show his bravery. The first battle Beowulf must face is against the monster Grendel. Right away his bravery is shown in this quote, “my hands alone shall fight for me, struggle for life against the monster.” Beowulf decides to fight Grendel with no armour or sword, showing his courage and confidence in battle. The book depicts Grendel as a monster who has killed people. But in the movie it shows Grendel as helpless and even innocent in a way. This makes you feel bad for Grendel and shows that Beowulf could be just as much of a monster. …show more content…

An example would be “That I, alone and with the help of my men, may purge all evil from this hall”. Beowulf’s next battle is against Grendel's Mother. In the book he kills her without thinking about it because that is what he was sent to do. In the movie however he goes to kill her, but does not kill her. This is because she is shown as a very pretty women and seduces him. So instead of doing he was sent to do, he instead makes a deal with her so she will stop attacking people. This does not take away from his bravery but it does show that he is not completely a hero in the
