1. I think that Odysseus’ plan for escaping the Cyclops was very cunning and methodical. I think my absolute favorite part is when he told the Cyclops his name was Nohbdy because it was amazing trickery and it’s what helped the plan continue on. 2.

Imagine a man that sailed the sea for 10 years, conquered colossal cyclops, made a fool of unnerving sea monsters, and overtook the inconceivable god of the sea, Poseidon. This man is Odyssus from The Odyssey. Odysseus led thousands of men towards home after a well earned victory at a far away country named Troy. On his way back, he came upon an island that was inhabited by a giant one-eyed monster named Polyphemus. Odysseus lost 6 men to this monster and barely escaped with his life.
In the book of the Odyssey, Odysseus’s lied at times, but I think they all were an important part of this book. First reason, the Cyclops if Odysseus hadn’t lied to him, then what will happen? Maybe Odysseus will die there. Also, Odysseus’s crew, if he doesn’t omit the truth, they were already reaching their homeland. Odysseus in The Odyssey was a brave and cunning leader. In the story, Odyssey defended and saved his men countless times, like in the story of him and the cyclops. Odysseus in the story offered Polyphemus, the cyclops, strong wine, causing him to fall asleep. Odysseus and his men then took a stake they prepared and drove it into the eye of Polyphemus. Odysseus and his men then proceeded to tie themselves to the bottoms of the sheep to exit the next morning while the sheep are let out.
Odysseus is overpowering and his cleverness allows him to get out of tight situations. This is depicted in his run-in with Polyphemus, the cyclops son of Poseidon. His crew and he find themselves in the giant's cave and Odysseus devises a plan to get out. He tricks Polyphemus into thinking his name is Nobody and gets him drunk so he can jab him in the eye and escape. He then ruins his perfect get away by acting haughty and “shout[ing] out derisive words at Polyphemus”.
After the trojan war Odysseus must make a ten year long voyage to take him and his men back home. During this ten year voyage many epic events happen which result in Odysseus losing some of his men. One of the first main events is when Odysseus takes ten of his best men to the cyclops cave to steal food “here’s liquor to wash down your scrapes”(Homer). Unfortunately both Odysseus and his men fell asleep in the cave and end up getting trapped in the cave. Odysseus idea was to blind the cyclops named Polyphemus.
Why was Odysseus being so resourceful and using so much hubris within the book? In the epic poem ¨The Odyssey¨ by Homer, a key strength and weakness are shown by Odysseus. He shows resourcefulness and hubris in an attempt to save him and his men. This poem by Homer demonstrates Odysseus´ greatest strength, resourcefulness, and his greatest weakness, hubris. He does this to teach his readers that certain actions can have bad consequences.
Odysseus was a man of great stature and strength; however, Odysseus was not only physically strong, but mentally strong as well (Olson). In the section “In the One-Eyed Giant’s Cave” from Homer’s The Odyssey, Odysseus is portrayed as a hero through his character traits and behaviors. When Odysseus and his men attack the city of Ismarus, the Cicones’ strong hold, Odysseus made sure to fairly distribute the spoils among his men. Throughout the story, Odysseus demonstrates his courage that ultimately allows him to survive. One of these moments was during his journey back to Ithaca, where he faces a race of man eating giants called the Cyclops. Odysseus originally stops his ship there to relish a feast while on his journey back to Ithaca, but while doing so, out of curiosity explores the island. Soon, he finds a deserted house and decides to wait of the owner. The owner was unknowingly one the Cyclops, named Polyphemus.
Summary: Cyclops In the story, Odysseus is still speaking to the Phaeacians, but is now telling them of his encounter with Polyphemus, the cyclops. Strong winds blew Odysseus and his men to Polyphemus’ island, where they unloaded and entered a cave that Polyphemus happened to live in. When he entered the cave, he closed the entrance with a large boulder that only he could move, trapping himself, his sheep, and Odysseus inside. After he ate some of Odysseus’ men, Odysseus devised a plan to get the cyclops to move the boulder so that the men could escape.
