Specifically, carelessness and how it can lead to tragedy. One example of carelessness leading to tragedy is when Daisy mentions Tom's impulsive physical behavior in front of their visitors by declaring, "You did it Tom… I know you didn’t mean to but you DID do it. That’s what I get for marrying a brute of a man, a great big hulking physical specimen of a - -” (15). After Nick asks if Daisy was the one driving, Gatsby responds with, “Yes… but of course I’ll say I was.
