Cannery Row is a book written by John Steinbeck in 1945. Cannery Row showcases a small town in the great depression where the sense of community comes in all forms and sizes. The town of Cannery Row is found in Monetary, California where the sardine business thrives. There is a major blending of characters in this novel. From a mix of genders to social classes, and levels of education to economic statuses everyone at the end of the day comes together as a community. The first example of how they are different but come together is the social ranking in the town. There are wealthy people in the town like Dora and Doc. There are also homeless people like Mack and the boys. There is also this in-between where shop owners like Lee Chong lay. Dora runs a restaurant and secret business that is frowned upon by most people living in that time.
