In the novel All Quiet on the Western Front there are many good examples of comradeship. Comradeship should have been and is a major part of this story. Think about it, fighting day and night for your life isn’t an easy task to do alone. Friends and acquaintances are going to come in real handy when in war. Remarque does a very good job implying this theme. In many parts of the book you see cooperation of the friends. In chapter five, Paul and Kat are sitting across from each other, they have just killed a goose together and are now cooking it. Paul says “We sit opposite one another, Kat and I, two soldiers in shabby coats, cooking a goose in the middle of the night. We don’t talk much, but I believe we have a more complete communion with one another than even lovers have.” Page 94 Paul has grown very close to Kat. Ever since my great grandpa told me about it I have watched movies and played games about it. Though I have never really read books about it except for informational ones, This book might change that for me. It was a really interesting read and I’m glad you had our class read it. (Do you have any other war books that are good to read?) This book changed a little bit that I knew about WWI because it went in depth into somebody’s life. Even though I had seen movies on it, it is a different experience for when you read it. When we had our discussions it was very cool to see what others thought and our opinions and something we didn’t like or did like. The presentations in the beginning were pretty cool, I already knew some of the stuff like the weapons and vehicles but it’s nice to see and look back on them. I learned a ton about trench warfare that I didn’t know at all. I had no idea about the rats and how chlorine gas worked so effectively with the trenches.
