To Kill a Mockingbird is a story about a young girl by the name of Jean Louise Finch and her relatively anti- racist family. The Finch Family is facing the segregation of a man named Tom Robinson. A lot goes on in this story, a lot is seen from the Finch family's point of view of their world at this point in time. Reading the book a lot of heat is seen to come from the differentiation struggles between race, money and living styles. These few things bring a lot of tension between the different characters in the book seemingly relating to the real world. In the book money is involved by knowing that not everyone has the same amount of money. The Finch family would be said to be one of the more “rich” families because Atticus Finch is a lawyer. Another example is the cunninghams. They don't have a lot of money but they are rich in goods and necessities. As Atticus states on page twenty three “ Not in money” Atticus said. “ but before the year is out I'll have been paid back”. This is a huge problem in the story because some kids get made fun of for not having as much money as the other kids. This is a huge inequality because money shouldn’t define who you are. Whether that person be an adult or a child, people are always susceptible to the social cues around them. Calpurnia tells Jean Louise“ There're some folks who don’t eat like us” (Lee 27). As to help her learn that the way one lives does not determine their value. Throughout the story Atticus continuously teaches his children that being kind to people no matter how they treat you is always the best way to go. A perfect example of this in the story is the fact that Scout is at first a young and naive child who bullies a kid for “messing up” her first day of school. After this Jem invites him to dinner and Calpurnia tells Scout not to make jokes about people because they are different.
