Today, I’d like to explore the Field of Inquiry of Power, Politics, Justice. I would like to explore the idea of corruption with power, especially when power is abused by those who hold it. In my first English work ,The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and in my translated work, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi we see that power is abused and people often become corrupt due to the amount of power they hold.
The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fizgerald shows mainly examples of corruption especially through this main character in the novel, the specific type of corruption used is that of many and the powers that it holds over people. Daisy and her husband,Tom, are the most clear example of Power when it comes to wealth and class. We see the man himself, Gatsby, who was on the opposite spectrum of wealth. He romanticized Daisy and her power that she had overand other men who also wanted to be with her. Tom also shows his power by his control over people in the lower class. Like his affair with Myrtle where he is clearly in the higher power and he cheats on Daisy with Myrtle and this all goes over Myrtle”s husband's head. Our narrower, Nick Carroway, sees all of these events happen first hand and he retells it to us the audience. We learn alot about the character Tom in the except that I've chosen for today. Where Tom treats Myrtle like a dog and something that can easily be thrown away and a piece of disragged trash. Nick also first mentioned that if Tom could he would kill Nick with the amount of power he holds over even people in his own class. While Tom cheats on Daisy is also known to have an affair on Tom which shows her own selflessness and she shows to not even care due her own feeling of being above
