COVID-19 Mask Policies
Propaganda is information used to promote a political cause or point of view. During the Covid-19 pandemic, propaganda was used in many ways such as commercials, posters, medicine, policies, and etc. These advertisements were used to persuade people into promoting causes, wear masks, take medicine, and more. That if they didn’t, they would be putting themselves and other people at risk. Mask policy posters persuaded people to have a mask upon entering the building. It encouraged them to do what is right for their country. However, many people refused to wear masks because of reasons such as lack of effectiveness, discomfort, American rights, and more. Propaganda is an issue today because it is a way of persuading people to promote a particular cause. When people use propaganda, they mostly include ethos, logos, or pathos. Advertisements may include pathos to evoke one's emotions as a way of persuading. They would also use logos to show statistics which will convince someone to promote a certain cause. Propaganda can be used in good ways and in bad ways. During the pandemic, there were advertisements promoting different things. Business owners would put up posters on the outside of their building explaining the mask policy. Most places wouldn’t let people in if they refused to wear a mask. If they didn’t have a mask, many facilities would offer them one, or recommend ordering online. This is an example of propaganda because mask policies promoted them for a specific cause. Many posters on the outside of buildings would include pathos, (appealing to one's emotions) to make people feel guilty about refusing to wear a
