In order to think more critically about my topic, there are three ways that I could create a more critical line of thought. The first way would be associating social media and privacy with like terms. These terms would include privacy rights, the first amendment, and overall internet privacy just to name a few. Social media privacy is just a subset of overall internet privacy, which all falls under the category of public space. Due to the fact that the internet is a public space, the amendments are basically the rules of what can and cannot be posted or shown online. In order to agree with my topic, that social media is compromising the privacy of the people that sign up for the website, I would say that there is a violation of privacy because the information about a person on their social media profiles is too readily available for others to see and use. It is an issue because if any random person looks up someone’s name, as I mentioned before, it is very likely that they will find that person’s profile, pictures, and personal information such as birthday, phone number, family members, and possible even where they live. This information is generally necessary in order to set up an account in the first place. Due to that, the information is in the website, and can only be removed through various steps that are hidden in multiple places in the settings of the website. However, on the opposing side, because the option is there to remove this information, there is no actual violation of privacy rights. Also, when a person decides to sign up for the media, they have to sign a Terms and Conditions sheet, which is generally a lengthy document, that explains everything that they disclose and the specific privacy policy for the social media company as
