Have you ever felt curious about the world around you? The three pieces of media we have read/watched used the topic curiosity. For Example, in Wall-e, the people living in space were curious of what life on earth would be. In Fahrenheit 451, Montag wanted to know what it was like in the world before now. In Harrisonburg, people were curious about what would happen if they didn’t use their disabilities. Without the topic of curiosity these pieces of media wouldn’t exist. Characters within Wall-E, Harrison, and F451 all develop the theme of curiosity.
Montag is the curious character in Fahrenheit 451. At the beginning of the story Montag meets a girl named Clarisse who asks Montag, “Are you Happy” (Bradbury 7). This starts getting Montag curious on whether or not he’s actually happy with the life he has now. In this society people always listen to what the government says and don’t think of what life would be like without these rules. George states, “The minute people start cheating on laws, what do you think happens to society.” (31) In this society there are laws put in place so that everyone is brought down to everyone else so that everyone is equal. This relates to the theme of curiosity because George is curious about what society would be like if the government didn’t put in these laws. In this society they are not allowed to be curious. The text states, “[George's] thoughts fled in panic, like bandits from a burglar alarm.”(6) Even if these people wanted to be curious they couldn’t because they have things on their bodies that stop them from being curious. This relates to the theme of curiosity because even if people wanted to be curious about life with these “handicaps” they weren’t allowed
