She is in a special position where she has enough money and position to get away with a lot more than others. Daisy might be the most careless and reckless person in the book. To begin with, she causes a lot of tension between Tom and Gatsby. Although this was not her fault in some ways, she could have handled it a lot better. In F. Scott Fitzgerald novel “The Great Gatsby”, the character George Wilson shoots Gatsby dead. But who is really to blame for his demise? Daisy Buchanan is the real person to blame because she lead gatsby to believe she would leave Tom for him and because she should have admitted to her mistakes. Daisy Buchanan plays her share in the blame for Jay Gatsby’s death because of the way she treated Gatsby. Daisy leads Gatsby on by letting him think she was gonna leave her husband while they run away together “... she realized at last what she was doing - and as though she had never, all along, intended doing anything at all” (132).
We are first introduced to gatsby in the end of chapter 1 When he is staring across the bay at a green light then he disappears. Later in chapter 3 Nick meets Gatsby and they become friends. Gatsby’s dream is to get with daisy but he has to find a way to get around Tom. “Gatsby Bought that House so daisy would be just across the bay”(Fitzgerald 78). This quote show Gatsby is a very mysterious character and it also shows he must have history with daisy.
In Chapter 7, during a heated argument with Tom, Gatsby unknowingly reveals Daisy’s true feelings. He states, “She only married you because I was poor and she was tired of waiting for me” (Fitzgerald 130). Although Gatsby expresses that Daisy was waiting for him, she actually grows tired of waiting, which shows her impatience towards him. This is impatience because instead of waiting for someone she claims to love, she decides to stop waiting and actually moves on with her life. In fact, she marries someone else shortly after Gatsby leaves to fight in World War I.
Gatsby is dishonest about his past quite frequently in hopes of impressing Daisy. Nick catches onto this as Gatsby explains his family history, “The phrases were so threadbare that they evoked no image except that of a turbaned ‘character’... ”(Fitzgerald 70). Nick notices how flimsy Gatsby’s back story is. He tries to impress those around him in hopes the word will get to Daisy but instead, embarrasses himself.

The novel,The Great Gatsby, calls the character Jay Gatsby ‘Great’. As the story proceeds, Nick Carroway explains Gatsby as only wanting one thing, Nick’s cousin Daisy. Gatsby met his flame five years prior, and has since been away at war and Daisy has since gotten married. With Daisy marrying up to ‘Old Money’ Tom Buchanan, Gatsby must do everything in his power to impress Daisy. Gatsby deals in shady businesses in order to gain as much fortune and spend that fortune on his obsession.
Living in a mansion, with millions of dollars and friends, Sounds like a dream life to me. But in The Great Gatsby, James Gatz also referred to as “Gatsby”, regarded this life as the life of attracting his lover Daisy. He loved her when he was poor, He lied and left to build her dream life, then everything crashed when she came back years later. He thought of the ideal life as an attraction to win her all over again.
It seems so simple for Daisy to leave Tom and run to Gatsby but when in reality she had more than just her wealth on the line, she and Tom had a child together. The child wasn't brought up much during the novel and Gatsby doesn't put much thought into this his only worry is for Daisy and this reflects some of his selfish behaviors we are faced with throughout the book. Gatsby gives up his old life to create a new one in the same class as Daisy and he expects Daisy to give up her life she's created with Tom this projects how Gatsby does things for only his own personal gain. In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gatsby is only in love with Daisy. He believes that she is the only person he will ever love and that she will only ever love him. When Daisy reveals that she did love Tom at one point, Gatsby is bewildered that she loved someone other than him. He believes that you can only love one person for your whole life. I disagree with that statement.
Heaven or Hell Daisy may have been getting cheated on, but she was as innocent as she seemed. The Great Gatsby had many twists and turns. Jay loved Daisy so much that he was blind to the signs that she didn’t 100% feel the same way about him. I know for a fact that she loved him once upon a time but that was many years ago. I wish Jay could have opened his eyes sooner and seen that Daisy is a terrible person who uses people then leaves when time gets rough.
Critics are correct when they say there is a sense that Gatsby is in love with the idea of Daisy rather than Daisy herself. The idea of Daisy greatly raised Gatsby’s expectations and his disappointment with Daisy herself shows his obsession with his ideal vision. Daisy is Gatsby’s source of motivation and his dream. However, Daisy has become a delusion and Gatsby’s sight of reality has been obscured in order to achieve this dream.
