“Daisy! Daisy! Daisy!” Many girls in the world pretend to be something they’re not, but pretending to be stupid is the most common. The rich and beautiful Daisy Buchanan acts as if she doesn’t understand everything that goes on around her, like the way she plays Tom and Gatsby for her own benefit shows how smart and deceptive she actually is. Deceitfulness is something Daisy Buchanan is very good at. For example, while outside talking to Nick the night of his first dinner at the Buchanan’s, Daisy says”[that] the best thing a girl can be, [is] a beautiful little fool.”(Fitzgerald) This shows that Daisy believes that a girl should pretend to be stupid around dominant people to get by. When Nick came to see Daisy she said that she was extremely happy to see him and then laughed “as if she said something very witty.”(Fitzgerald) This shows that Daisy is trying to show other people that she thinks she’s smart.
