Back in the 1930s-1940s, Nazi’s ruled tremendous sections of Europe. They somehow managed to manipulate themselves to believe they are superior beings. They took whatever they wanted and treated people however they wanted. They even believed they had the ability to rape whoever they wanted, which is abysmal! Hitler believed militant power created authority. In the brief time he reigned, this was true. However, anyone who was in the way of Hitler's intentions was treated atrociously. None of the Nazi’s even considered human rights, when they took action. No one nowadays would even think about committing a colossal calamity. People who hated Jews did not realize they were doing wrong until Hitler came to power. Sarah was found thinking about this in the book. Europe was not a nice place for Jews to live in at that time. “Children crying, children screaming, children hiccuping with terror. [...] No one looked at them. No one took care of them. They were rarely fed. They were so hungry, they nibbled dry grass, bits of straw. No one comforted them.” (De Rosnay 79). This quote signifies the tragic injustice in regards to dehumanization found in the book. Our group believes that, the definition of dehumanization is the process of depriving a person of their basic entitles and treat them as a lesser being, when in reality we are all equal in nature. In this quote, the girls were treated worse than animals, They were forced to eat dry grass and straw instead of actual food. They felt alone and isolated. No one came to help, since everyone was treated poorly they could only fend for themselves. It is of no question, that De Rosnay used dystopia throughout the book, but it is evident here the most.
