Skin Deep How would you feel if you had to watch the people you love and care about be tortured and abused? What if you were a victim of discrimination? Elie Wiesel was one of the many Jews that experienced hatred because of his race. He, as well as his family, endured the pain of racism. This problem still exists today. Many people have had to experience discrimination. This is a major issue, but with the help of schools, parents, and organizations, a solution will be found. We can’t stop it but we can prevent it from spreading any further. Keep in mind, no person is born racist. We have to put a stop to these acts. In Elie Wiesel’s story, “Night” he is being judged and discriminated against because he is Jewish. For example, the Jews of Budapest lived in an atmosphere of fear and terror. Anti-Semitic acts took place every day in the streets as well as on trains. The Fascists attacked places ranging from stores to synagogues. “The situation is becoming very serious..”(Page 9). Jews were the target of discrimination because they were known for being wealthy while others were in debt. This made them the first to be blamed. Once they got away, they could have easily let someone know what was going on. If the Jews would have all went into hiding or rebelled, it could have ended sooner. They would have easily outnumbered the troops but no one wanted to speak out. The fear of death was relevant but risking a few lives to save many would have been worth it. In today's society racism and other forms of discrimination still exist. Currently, Isis, a terrorist group, is killing people because of race, religion, and multiple other reasons. We can prevent racism from carrying on into future generations. We are all evolving and should make positive
