In Carol Daniels's novel Bearskin Diary, the protagonist, Sandy, is continuously discriminated against because of her Indigenous heritage and the colour of her skin. One of the main points of the novel is that Indigenous people have to work harder than their coworkers to get ahead. I do not think it is fair that Sandy has to overcome so many challenges to put herself through school and get her dream job of being a reporter. When she first gets the job, one of her coworkers says to her, "Just because you work here now, don't ever consider yourself one of us. You will always be inferior.

For example, when Atticus tells Scout how lawyers have black clients but not all lawyers try to do a good job at defending the black person. Khaled Hosseini not only shows the discrimination of minority groups but introduces the notion that people will discriminate not based on their personal views but upon which they believe as their role in society. In Afghanistan culture “Nang and namoos” defined as "pride" and "honor or dignity" is incredibly valued in the culture with people outwardly going out of their way to maintain their reputation. However, in his two novels Khaled Hosseini presents the idea that this pride inevitably leads to the discrimination of another. This is demonstrated In a Thousand Splendid Suns by the characters Jalil and Rasheed due to the way they treat those closest to them. For instance, Jalil ousts Nana outside of his home upon receiving news that she is expecting his illegitimate child.
The debate around same-sex marriage was is a good idea to legalize it. I believe that same-sex marriage should be legal. I don’t think there is anything wrong with people of the same sex getting married. Now the concept of traditional marriage has changed and the power of love is more important than gender in my opinion.
