Today and yesterday are the same in terms of discrimination and society. People today have the same opinions even though the laws and the way colored people were treated as changed. Our opinions or some people's opinions have not changes and even though in the past they showed it more and expressed how they felt a lot more. Now we keep our opinions secretive and we don't really shout it out as much but yet people still feel the same way. Discrimination is shown in the book, it was shown in the past and even in the present.
In the book discrimination is shown a lot throughout the book. They would take a white woman word over a black man’s word, just because he was colored. They were put into a trial and no matter how much the evidence pointed towards him being innocent he was found guilty. “Judge Taylor was polling the jury: “Guilty guilty guilty guilty ” I peeked at Jem: his hands were white from gripping the balcony rail, and his shoulders jerked as if each “guilty” was a separate stab between them.” (Lee 112). In the past back in the 1600’s, was when racism and discrimination all started. They would use them as slaves and as their workers. “plus Calpurnia our cook. Jem and I found our father satisfactory: he played with us, read to us, and treated us with courteous detachment.” (Lee 3). This quote shows that they used this aspect as having a black or colored person to be their cook. They would also use a word which started all racism to discriminate them just because of their race. They would begin to separate schools, bathrooms, neighborhoods, work spaces etc. It didn't stop there it continued to get worse where they had no freedom and laws towards them that didn't allow them to do
