This was very confusing for Gatsby because he was getting mixed signals which just drove him crazier and more willing to do anything for Daisy. Later in the book, after Daisy hits Myrtle with the yellow car, she runs away. She doesn’t say anything to Gatsby, she doesn’t try to take the blame for him, she just leaves. “I suppose Daisy will call too.” He looked at me anxiously, as if he hoped I’d corroborate this” (Fitzgerald 118).

When Myrtle is hit by the car and killed, the reader knows that the operator of the car is Daisy and not Gatsby. Yet, when Gatsby is talking to Nick outside of the Buchanan’s house, he says that he is going to lie and take the blame for Myrtle’s death. In the novel Gatsby and Nick say, “‘Was Daisy driving?’ ‘Yes,’ he said after a moment, ‘but of course I’ll say I was’” (Fitzgerald 151)

Gatsby is planning to lie to everyone and say that he killed Myrtle even though Daisy was the one driving the car. “Yes,” he said after a moment, “But of course I’ll say I was”(Gatsby 110). This shows that he loves Daisy so much that he would take the blame for this so she wouldn 't get in trouble. He is trying to protect Daisy so they can run away together and be together for the rest of their lives.
If one is honest, they are to be free of deceit and untruthfulness; sincere. The quality of being honest is honesty. Gatsby being dishonest makes him stupid because dishonesty is not right. First he was dishonest about his original name. On page 104 it said that his original name was James Gatz. He should of told someone about it if he truly was comfortable with them.

This claim can be proven through Daisy’s continuous affair with Gatsby despite Tom’s suspicions, Daisy selfish nature, and the fact that she killed Myrtle herself and let Gatsby take blame. For example, Daisy’s continuous affair with Gatsby despite Tom’s suspicion was one of the factors in Gatsby’s death. One example of this is when Nick witnesses “Daisy’s face was smeared with tears, and when I came in she jumped up and began wiping at it with her handkerchief” (89).
