You got people getting drunk and throwing themselves off the roof. You have affairs going on, all that juicy drama. Nonetheless, there's a sad story of people seeking things that don't bring them joy under all that enjoyment. In F. Scott Fitzgerald's “The Great Gatsby”, big parties and luxurious living set the mood for a deeper exploration of how people feel and act. Characters attempt to realize their aspirations in the story, but they are faced with the American Dream's good and bad aspects. Some people, such as Jay Gatsby, can build wealth from nothing (New Money). Others, like George Wilson, stay poor, showing how some people achieve their goals while others fail. In The Great Gatsby, it states, "Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter—tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther." Fitzgerald - 180 m. This quote shows Gatsby's pursuit of his version of the American Dream, as shown by the green light at Daisy's dock. Even though things have happened, that led to disappointments, Gatsby stays motivated to achieve his vision of success, showing his desire to chase after the American Dream. The use of "tomorrow we will run faster" gives a meek mill 2012 type of vibe (Hunger) for fulfillment. This reveals the disappointment that characters like Gatsby feel as they discover how insignificant their aspirations are and how impossible it is to achieve them. The quote does a very good job of demonstrating how pursuing the American Dream may lead characters to desire, disillusionment, and destruction.
