The governing body of a nation, state, or community is known as government. A fundamental concept to American is federalism. Federalism is a system of government in which power is divide between a central government and regional governments. The government of the US, the national government, is sometime called the federal government, while the state governments are just called the state government. This is because US can be considered a federation of states. The national government also owns public lands and regulates patents which need to be national for them to offer protection for inventors and national government also control currency.
